Title: Paddington 2
Director: Paul King

Based on: Paddington Bear by Michael Bond Sequel to: Paddington (2014)

Release Date: January 12, 2018

So, this is how a low-budget Paddington adaptation got there. That movie was wholesome enough for the team to make a second one. Today, we will talk about Paddington 2, the sequel to the iconic movie about the young bear. At a budget of $40 million (about $10 less than the original film's budget), the movie has astoundingly become a box office success of $283.7 million gross. Thanks to the worldwide attention, it also gained critical acclaim for its story, Hugh Grant's performance, visuals, and positive themes. To add more marmalade to the sandwich, it was even nominated for Outstanding British Film, Best Adapted Screenplay, and Best Actor in a Supporting Role at the BAFTAs. Using a tight budget again, Paddington 2 shows that more family and marmalade made a significant improvement

Summary

"Settled in with the Brown family, Paddington the bear is a popular member of the community who spreads joy and marmalade wherever he goes. One fine day, he spots a pop-up book in an antique shop -- the perfect present for his beloved aunt's 100th birthday. When a thief steals the prized book, Paddington embarks on an epic quest to unmask the culprit before Aunt Lucy's big celebration." - Google

Reasons

A handful of the best gifts of Paddington 2 are the heartwarming story, wholesome execution, and sweet messages. Since the first one was an extreme success, the writers kept looking at the source material to make something that is as good. Well, this movie has another simple yet interesting plot, and it somehow manages to be better than the first movie. Instead of belonging in a human family, Paddington has to give a gift to Aunt Lucy. Moving on, the execution is a little more tense but still appealing to all ages. In between the silly antics of the bear, you also got the action and problems. The family-friendly appeal can definitely engage both kids and adults to watch the adventure unfold. The best part? The message is on another level. Yes, it's still about family, but it tells us about how politeness can change the world. On top of that, it can even change us for the better.
Several other gifts that we see from Paddington 2 are the engaging visuals, entertaining characters, and fun humor. The original did illustrate some story points through books or drawings. In this sequel, these were a step up. Some of them don't even have the narrator tell it for the kids to figure it out. Next, the characters were likable and better than last time. Ben Whishaw is still breaking it out as the titular bear. Additionally, you also have Hugh Grant playing as Phoenix Buchanan, a better villain of the franchise, and Brendan Gleeson as Knuckles, the prison chef. Finally, from the goods, the jokes are much funnier. Again, there is no toilet humor or pop culture references. It's all just dialogue, silly gags, and some important plot points to make someone smile.
Well, Paddington 2 is a purely amazing film, but the only flaws to point out are one plot hole and one visual problem. I do not want to spoil it, but the writers should have proofread some points before revising. In a way, it makes the film not make sense when you look at it.

Conclusion

Due to how this has more wholesome value and exciting kiddie action, Paddington 2 is another house visit that has more family and marmalade. No wonder that this movie made a huge success with a cheaper budget. While it is still about an indifferent family, it tells us about politeness and doing anything for your distant relatives. Also, it has new human characters that are somehow more fun than those from the original. Do yourself a favor and watch this sequel after the first. It would be a prison treat.

Score: 9/10 (if we're kind and polite, the world will be right)
